In the midst of May 2020 – the heat of a pandemic – EverythingOShauN and Xpress aka DJXP gifted to us a song of tropical-fusion: Sweet, which was well received by thousands praying for better times. The sad were uplifted, the bored were alleviated, and the dancers appreciated it.
Now, it seems like Sweet was merely a transition into even brighter times: a sunny, all-out Afro-beat offering entitled “Odinma“. The Igbo word itself is a positive approximation of “I’m good”, which is surely a mantra we can all use. In fact, we will use, because the good feels are ever-infectious on this one. The half-Nigerian and wholly-creative brothers are pleasantly surprising us with every evolution, and – Maybe It’s Nothing, Maybe It’s Everything – we will find out.

Every now and then, our favorite duo likes to surprise us with something strange (but oh-so-good). Remember that folk-trap situation on Load MGMT? Well today we have an amalgamation of funky, retro, and tropical, all delivered with the fun wordplay we’ve come to expect but receivedly, unexpected.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what genre this is, but that’s what makes it so trailblazing. Is it the modern-day wave of Afro-beat-infused hip-hop? Is it a groovy 90s R&B track? Is it tropical house? It’s best to just listen to it, because the best things are often unboxed.

EverythingOShauN rode his sadness into the sunset on “Equestrian” and now returns to his regular scheduled braggadocious self, inviting you to “Come and See” for yourself the energy his performative being is used to giving. The addictive bass-heavy production is handled by none other than Xpress aka DJXP, who gives us an exotic breakdown at the end… perhaps a peek into what surprises they have in store for us in their next awaited project?
EverythingOShauN slows it down to his melodic roots after his last fun-guy release, “Load MGMT“. On “Equestrian”, he laments over someone who seemingly no longer rides for him. Emotional vulnerability is carefully worded with bars only OShauN can break, and set against a cinematic score crafted by Xpress aka DJXP. At the end of it all, we are reminded that we must keep going despite disappointments, as the only constant is the hustle to get it right.
No, not the show, silly – we don’t condone pirating.
But what is free to watch and share, is the highly flashy music video for EverythingOShauN‘s “Making the Band (Diddy)”, which was produced by Xpress aka DJXP and SLWJMZ.
The kaleidoscope of a video was directed by duo Fatty Soprano & Shutterr and features dynamic dancers and fashionable features including Toronto’s Azonto King Prempz, Karo Jasper, Michelle Asiamah, and more. Styling was done by CREEPS and watch out for a cameo by their very own Cynthia.
Kawhi may have left Toronto but EverythingOShauN is still repping the city hard with a new single following “Making the Band (Diddy)“. In usual fashion, the hip-hop artist and his producer Xpress aka DJXP delights us with a new sound that still manages to pleasantly surprise us with the reaches of their versatility.
A hearty guitar loop envelopes OShauN’s catchy hooks in what can only be described as a folk-trap phenomenon. Press play on “Load MGMT” now and enjoy this moment; have fun with it.
Our very own Lowry rapper EverythingOShauN is grinding hard with a new single from a fourth-coming project. Over a chill-bass production by frequent collaborator Xpress aka DJXP and SLWJMZ, OShauN is making plans and bands like Diddy on Making the Band, with his by-any-means-necessary attitude.
Making the Band (Diddy) is available everywhere; check out EverythingOShauN.com for all the streaming/purchasing options.
EverythingOShauN is in a Polaroid-perfect montage, riding around the north-side’s suburbs in a vintage vehicle with his stripped-down bride (@purplexolive), as he contemplates the delicate balance between settling down in a relationship and wanting to ball like The Raptors’ point guard Lowry. The imagery in the Fatty Soprano & Shutterr directed video features contrasting elements that effectively tell the dilemma between childhood dreams and adulthood realities: the shirt & tie with the varsity jacket, the purity and tradition of a wedding dress versus the freeing and liberating panties & bra, and essentially the right side up and the upside down; all taking place in an unsettling setting of strange nostalgia mixed with ever-too-real reality. The reflective track’s producer, Xpress aka DJXP, also makes an appearance. Catch more deep waves and feels off EverythingOShauN’s latest album, Everything Over Everything Else.
